Matteo Fiamengo
Age 10, Lives in Vaughan (Woodbridge)
Matteo is an avid hockey player and an incredibly brave fighter!
10-year-old Matteo was diagnosed with Leukaemia in May 2018. He was immediately admitted to hospital to start intensive chemotherapy. The treatment hit him hard. He suffered many side effects, i.e. fevers, anaphylactic reactions to blood transfusions, nausea, severe jaw pain, pancreatitis and loss of strength.
Matteo is now in the maintenance therapy stage of his treatment, which means 3 more years of chemotherapy, pokes, tests, lumbar punctures and scans. He takes majority of his chemo orally, taking up to 18 medications a day, and visits the hospital every 2 weeks to have chemo in his port, lumbar punctures in his spine, and also have his bloodwork done to monitor his counts.
This courageous boy’s battle is far from over, but Matteo is one fearless kid who is determined to show cancer who’s boss.
